Chevrolet is a brand of automobiles produced by General Motors. It is the top selling General Motors brand with the Chevrolet name or Chevy being already synonymous with General Motors.
Chevrolet offers as much as 20 vehicles and many different enhanced versions in its market. These vehicles range from subcompact cars to medium-duty commercial trucks. The Chevrolet Silverado pickup and the Impala is currently the 2nd best selling vehicle in the U.S. Second only to the Ford F-Series.
Chevrolet was founded by William C. Durant and Louis Chevrolet. Louis Chevrolet was a race car driver while William Durant was the founder of General Motors but had been forced out of GM in 1910.
William Durant wanted to rebuild his own reputation as a force in the automobile industry by using Chevrolet’s designs. By 1916,Chevrolet was already profitable enough that he bought a majority of shares in GM. After the deal, in 1917 Durant became president of General Motors and Chevrolet was merged into GM.
The Chevrolet Suburban was a large sport utility vehicle from Chevrolet. It is the longest lived continuous automobile nameplate that is still in production since 1935. The name “Suburban” was used in a lot of automotive companies in the United States to indicate a windowed, stationwagon-type body on a commercial frame. But with the closure of Dodge Town Wagon in 1966, only General Motors was left manufacturing a vehicle branded as a “Suburban.” So in 1988, they were awarded with the exclusive trademark of the name.
